Which sheet should my child start with?
Start with Capture the Free Piece as soon as your child knows how all the pieces move. When they solve at least 9 of the 12 puzzles without help, move on to the next sheet. If they get fewer than 7 right, the sheet is too hard for now; go back one step and come back in a week.
How to use the sheets in a class or club
- Give one page (6 puzzles) per session. Fifteen focused minutes beats an hour of guessing.
- Ask children to explain their answer out loud before checking the key. Explaining is where the learning sticks.
- Set up a wrong answer on a demo board and let the class find Black's defence together.
- All sheets print well in black and white, and the board diagrams stay readable on cheap printers.
Want more than 12 puzzles?
Karotto's chess course walks children from how the pieces move to checkmate patterns and tactics, one short lesson at a time. A friendly voice reads every step aloud, and when your child is stuck, the app shows why a move works instead of just giving the answer.
